Privacy at CDIC
Canada Deposit Insurance Corporation (CDIC) is committed to the protection of privacy.
The information that we collect
We may collect, use and disclose personal information under the authority of the Canada Deposit Insurance Corporation Act. We collect and use such information for the purposes of that Act, and with regard to correspondence and inquiries, certain functions of websites operated by or for CDIC, and CDIC’s arrangements with its service providers. For example, CDIC collects voluntary information that is provided to our Call Centre and to email@example.com.
Through the federal government publication InfoSource, CDIC publishes personal information banks (“PIBs”) which list all the types of personal information collected by CDIC. Please refer to our PIB list for more information.
How we use this information
Personal information is used by CDIC to provide general information about its deposit insurance program, for the purpose of paying deposit insurance and to meet its other obligations under the CDIC Act. CDIC may also engage service providers to process personal information for these purposes.
Providing personal information to CDIC is voluntary. However, if incomplete information is provided, CDIC may not be able to respond to your inquiries or to fulfil its obligations to you.
Right to access and correct personal information
In accordance with the Privacy Act, you have the right to request access to any personal information CDIC may have about you, and the right to request corrections. If someone believes that any of his or her own personal information is inaccurate, CDIC will be pleased to make the appropriate corrections.
CDIC protects personal information with security safeguards appropriate to the sensitivity of the information. Access to personal information is only shared with those persons that need to know it to do their specific jobs.
CDIC does not contact individuals to request their personal information. CDIC also will not sell or rent your personal information to anyone.
Never provide personal financial information, including your Social Insurance Number, account numbers or passwords over the telephone or internet, if you did not initiate the contact. Unscrupulous people may seek to obtain your personal information by suggesting that bad things will happen if you do not immediately provide or verify your information. Do not provide such information to someone calling or emailing you.
