OTTAWA – September 9, 2025 – The Canada Deposit Insurance Corporation (CDIC) welcomes the announcement that Gina Byrne, most recently CDIC’s Chief Operating Officer, has been appointed its President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

With 18 years of CDIC experience Gina has extensive experience and a deep understanding of the corporation’s operations and risk environment. Gina led the development of CDIC’s resolution planning framework including the inaugural set of resolution plans for Canada’s largest banks. She established CDIC’s crisis response framework for the escalation and coordination of CDIC’s preparedness activities, ensuring the corporation is ready to respond in times of stress. And prior to joining CDIC, Gina worked at KPMG and various other financial service institutions, where she gained extensive experience in financial systems and risk management.

“It is a privilege to lead an organization who plays such a significant role in the financial system and in supporting financial stability,” says Gina. “I’m honoured to lead such a skilled and dedicated team of employees whose sole purpose is to safeguard the deposits of Canadians and those who rely on Canadian member institutions.”

Gina replaces Leah Anderson, who will retire at the end of this month.
