CDIC Deposit Insurance Basics E-Learning Module
Welcome to the CDIC Deposit Insurance Basics E-Learning Module. This non-compulsory, self-directed
training tool is an online interactive program. It was designed to assist our member institutions front-line
staff to better understand the basics of deposit insurance. Topics include - the deposit insurance limit,
what types of financial products are covered by CDIC and which ones are not.
The Module is easy to follow and includes interactive features such as:
- Expandable functionality that allows users to scan top-line information or review broader explanations
depending on their preference and comfort level;
- Ability to bookmark summaries, reference charts and case studies throughout the Module;
- Ability to download selected items to a printable “quick reference” guide for enhanced retention;
and,
- A multiple choice self-assessment quiz for users upon completion of the Module.
Additional functionality also allows users to automatically notify up to three individuals upon completion
of the course.

Q: What is the CDIC Deposit Insurance Basics
E-Learning Module?
A: The CDIC Deposit Insurance Basics E-Learning Module is an online interactive training
program designed to help front-line staff of CDIC member institutions understand the basics of CDIC deposit
insurance.
It can be used as a supplement to any other training programs you may have for your front-line staff. The
Module is non-compulsory and self-directed; it is at the discretion of you and your staff members to
undertake the training course.

Q: Why should front-line staff at member
institutions go through the Module?
A: The Module is designed to help train front-line staff to answer questions from
customers about CDIC deposit insurance – including the deposit insurance limit, what types of financial
products are covered by CDIC and which ones are not.

A: You can access the Module by clicking on the link at the bottom of the page or at

Q: Do I need a login or password to access the
Module?
A: Once you have clicked on the link to the module and you are on the main page of the
Module, you will be asked to create a login and password to access the Module functionalities, such as the
customized quick reference guide, the ability to revisit the Module at a later date and course completion
notifications.

Q: Can any staff member from a member
institution complete the Module?
A: Yes. Although the Module is specifically targeted at the front-line staff of CDIC
member institutions, any staff member wanting to know more about the basics of deposit insurance can go
online and complete the Module.

Q: Will the Module allow me to print off any
sections to keep on hand for the future?
A: Yes, users will have the ability to bookmark summaries, reference charts and case
studies throughout the Module, then download selected items to a printable “quick reference” guide.

Q: Will I receive a certificate or some form
of documentation to indicate to my managers that I have completed the Module?
A: Although there is no official “certificate,” the Module allows you to automatically
notify up to three individuals upon completion of the course. This electronic notification will be sent to
the inbox of the individuals you selected. The individuals you wish to notify are at your discretion.

Q: Do I have to go through the Module in
chronological order or can I jump from chapter to chapter?
A: Although we recommend that you first go through the entire Module in the order it’s
laid out, you’re welcome to jump from chapter to chapter at your own pace depending on your comfort with the
material.

Q: Are the results of the final quiz taken into
consideration and passed to my manager?
A: No, the results are not forwarded to your manager nor are you officially “graded” on
your final mark. The quiz is for your purposes only to determine how well you retained the information and
understand the basics of deposit insurance. However, you do have the option to notify your manager and two
other individuals that you have completed the course if you so choose.
